Mid-December last year Rainbow Hub SA (RHSA) launched our film “Decriminalisation of Homosexuality in South Australia 1975” hosted by the Hon Ian Hunter MLC at Parliament House followed by afternoon tea. The Hon Nat Cook MP was also able to join us briefly.
As part of the 50th anniversary of the decriminalisation of homosexuality in SA, RHSA commissioned Monty Khizam and Edwin Kemp Attrill to record its impact with some older members of our community.
Five men were interviewed: Anton Jarrett, Hugh Macindoe, Will Sergeant, Neil Whittenbury and Ivan Wooller.
The film was well received and the interviewees were thanked by RHSA Chair and MC Desmond Ford for their generosity in sharing their stories.
We will be using the film for education and training, particularly with those services aimed at older people. We know that personal stories used in this context can really engage people and get them to think about how they might work with our community to get the best outcomes for the older person..
