Many new faces joined regulars to enjoy our fully booked lunch – one of our contributions to the Program of commemorative activities marking the 50th anniversary of the decimalisation of homosexuality in SA.
Professor Barbara Baird AM, spoke passionately with some captivating slides about the significance of decriminalisation and activism in the 1970s, including the radicalism of lesbian feminist culture, the importance of National Homosexual Conferences and paid tribute to former Premier Don Dunstan. RHSA Committee Member Jess Evans MCd and reminded attendees of the importance of remaining vigilant about our rights in a time when they are increasingly under threat.
Treasury prepared two special rainbow menu items.
Attendee Darren Jones gave some feedback “…a big Thank You to all involved for organising what was a fabulous celebration! That cake! As always, fine food and personable staff. I think the Treasury is a perfect venue for this group. I met and talked with several lovely people today attending for the first time. Great to hear they intend to be at the next lunches too. Barbara Baird’s speech was both interesting and powerful.”
