One of the key roles for Rainbow Hub SA (RHSA) is to deliver consultancy and education to a range of service providers. In May this year RHSA delivered an education session to the Northern Adelaide Local Health Network. Close to 200 allied health professionals attended the session to explore how identity, history and lived experiences shape engagement with healthcare systems. For many health professionals these sessions are the first time they have had the opportunity to consider how our lived experiences can impact on the way in which we will access health care and to think about what they can do to make a difference.
The feedback from the session was extremely positive with over 85% of participants reporting that the session changed how they will approach communication or clinical practice with older LGBTI+ members of the community.
We all need to access a variety of health services throughout our life and for many of us even more so as we age. RHSA is committed to using education and consultancy as a means to ensure we all have a positive experience when accessing all health services.
