A real buzz of excitement and chatter filled the Uniting Communities Function Centre in Adelaide for Rainbow Hub SA’s formal launch emceed by Committee Member Jess Evans on 15 September. The well-supported event saw the Hon Nat Cook MP, Minister for Human Services and Minister for Seniors and Ageing Well, welcome politicians and representatives from across politics as well as diverse members of LGBTI+ communities and organisations and ally organisations with a positive message of “we have your back” in these turbulent times.
Polly Sumner-Dodd spoke beautifully with her Welcome to Country, and the launch ribbon held by Peter Jones, founding RHSA Chair, and Sue Hetzel, Rainbow Dog Action Group member and partner of the late Cris Davis, was officially cut by Minister Cook and Committee Member Pam Price.
Desmond Ford, Rainbow Hub SA Chair, concluded the formalities by flagging our new Strategic Plan and Rainbow Dog Project Report and encouraging individuals and organisations to stay connected with us. Desmond also paid tribute to founding member Cris Davis who died last October.
After the door prizes were drawn attendees enjoyed refreshments and the opportunity to mingle.
The launch fittingly marked the one year milestone of our advocacy group becoming independent.
